The Malta Ship Registry launches the new Commercial Yacht Code 2025

4 JULY 2025:

The Malta Ship Registry has announced the launch of the new Commercial Yacht Code (CYC) 2025, following an in-depth internal review and extensive consultation with industry stakeholders.

The revised Code reflects current international standards and evolving technologies, offering a regulatory framework better suited to the modern needs of the commercial yachting sector. CYC 2025 supersedes the 2020 edition and came into effect on 1 July 2025.

The updated Code applies to commercial yachts with a load line length of 24 metres or more, carrying up to 12 passengers. It introduces enhanced safety and compliance measures while aligning with market demands and operational realities. This revision aims to maintain Malta’s standing as a leading jurisdiction in the global yachting industry by providing a responsive and future-oriented regulatory environment.

As of the end of May 2025, 424 commercial yachts over 24 metres (163,556 GT) are registered under
the Malta flag. All applicable commercial yachts will be required to comply with the provisions of CYC 2025. Yachts
currently certified under CYC 2020, or those undergoing survey to that standard, must transition to the new requirements by their first renewal survey after 31 December 2025.
