Work by Transport Malta to ease traffic throughout the school yearPress Release 26 SEPTEMBER 2022:
As a new scholastic year begins, Transport Malta is aware of the increase in road traffic that such an event causes, especially during particular times of the day. Throughout these months, Transport Malta has worked to prepare for any eventuality, especially through preparatory meetings between various stakeholders such as Infrastructure Malta, the Police Force and LESA.
Transport Malta will be implementing various measures to alleviate this problem over time. These uses include
1. Free Tow Truck Service
This service will be available from Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 09:30, and from 15:30 to 18:30, during the school year. To make use of this service, one can call 80073399. An Enforcement Officer from Transport Malta will be sent on location to direct the traffic in the area and to move the broken-down vehicle to a place where its of least inconvenience to passing traffic.
2. Enforcement Officers
A number of Enforcement Officers will be stationed in locations where a large quantity of traffic is gathered so that there is no undue hindrance to the traffic flow. TMs enforcement officers will be especially present between 6:00 and 9:30 and 15:30 and 18:30. This will be accompanied by an increase in patrols carried out by Transport Malta.
3. There will be an increase in manpower at Transport Maltas Traffic Control Center (TCC) to ensure better coordination during rush hour.
Cooperation from the public is crucial to ensure that such measures are successful. We, therefore, encourage drivers to cooperate with the instructions provided by TMs enforcement officers and to plan their route in advance.
We also encourage drivers to download the Malta Road Traffic Update (MRTU) app, which will be updating them in real-time on any traffic they might encounter on their route. We also encourage drivers to follow all driving regulations and to stop their car in the correct way so that it does not obstruct the traffic flow.
