Ferry Services and Gozo

Press Release 11 AUGUST 2020:

Transport Malta takes note of Grupp Universitarji Għawdxin (GUG)’s concerns about the maritime service between the two islands.

The Authority has in fact issued a call for the Ferry services, which the Authority regulates in the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett, to be introduced on new routes, including one that links both islands.

This service was chosen following research that indicated that it would be more favourable than an isolated service, as was previously proposed, between Mġarr and Valletta. The chosen service offers more alternatives, especially for Gozitans travelling to Malta on a daily basis, particularly the students themselves.

Transport Malta notes that the services will be different and distinct from other services, that a number of operators offer around the country, which are generally aimed for the tourist industry.

It is evident that the service is not only necessary, but will also bring about social and economic benefits, especially for Gozo.
