Ta' Liesse roadworks
24 MAY 2025:Transport Malta is carrying out works to improve traffic flows and pedestrian safety at the Ta Liesse area in Valletta.
The previous pedestrian crossing was located too close to the tunnel entrance, creating a bottleneck and posing a risk to commuters crossing from and to the Gozo Fast Ferry Terminal. For this reason, it was removed. In its place, a new and safer system is being developed, including two synchronised pelican crossings and improved signage.
Temporarily, Transport Malta officers are present on-site to assist pedestrians, while new crossing points and safety railings are being installed to guide pedestrian movement.
Boarding and alighting bays, as well as relocated taxi stands and bus stops, are also being implemented to improve overall accessibility within an area that is known for its touristic activity during particular days of the week.
Works will continue next week with the installation of clear directional signage to facilitate safe and smooth transit for all users.
Transport Malta remains in close communication with stakeholders and is committed to completing these upgrades swiftly and responsibly.
