Passenger Transport Vehicle (over 9 seats)
Passenger transport vehicles are vehicles used for hire and reward that may carry more than 9 passengers besides the driver. Such vehicles may be driven only by holders of a drivers tag which is issued by the Projects & Operations Unit of Transport Malta to applicants who satisfy the following requirements:
- In case of Maltese citizens - hold a valid Identity card;
- In case of non-Maltese EU citizens - hold a valid residence permit;
- In case of Third-Country Nationals (TCNs) - hold a valid residence permit and an employment licence as a Minibus Driver or Bus Driver;
- Are in possession of a Category D1 or D driving licence;
- Have attended the driver CPC course;
- Are of good repute;
- Are fluent in Maltese or English.
Applying for a new PTV Driver permit
Applicants must submit:
- Application Form: DPA12;
- Copy of Identification: ID Card or Residence Card / Immigration Police Booklet;
- Copy of Driving Licence: Category D/D1 (or equivalent);
- Medical Certificate: DRV032;
- Driver CPC Course Certificate (in cases where there is no Code 95 present on the Driving Licence);
- Criminal Record Certificates (local + foreign, if applicable);
- Photo (does not apply for holders of a Driving Licence issued in Malta);
- Boarding Ticket showing date of latest arrival into Malta (for non-EU driving licence holders);
- Fee: 17.50.
Third Country Nationals (TCNs) must also provide:
- JobsPlus documentation showing Minibus Driver or "Bus Driver";
- Employer Declaration: DPA16 endorsed by a holder of a CPOL Operator Licence whose validity shall be later than 15 calendar days after the date of application for the tag.
Applying to Renew an PTV Driver Tag
Applicants must submit:
- Application Form: DPA14;
- Copy of Identification (Residence Card or valid interim document where applicable);
- Copy of Driving Licence;
- Medical Certificate: DRV032;
- Local Police Conduct Certificate;
- Boarding Ticket showing date of latest arrival into Malta (for non-EU driving licence holders);
- Fee: 12.
Third Country Nationals (TCNs) must also provide:
- JobsPlus documentation showing Minibus Driver or "Bus Driver";
- Employer Declaration: DPA16 endorsed by a holder of a CPOL Operator Licence whose validity shall be later than 15 calendar days after the date of application for the tag.
