Withdrawal of Driving Licence

If your driving licence have been withdrawn or disqualified in any Member State you shall not be allowed to drive in Malta, until such time that the withdrawal or disqualification is lifted.

Disqualification of a Driving Licence by Court Order

Disqualification of a driving licence issued in Malta is done through a Court decision upon which you must return your driving licence to Transport Malta as required by law. The licence card is kept at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit (DVLU) until the end of the disqualification period following which you can either collect it from Transport Malta’s offices in Paola or request to have it delivered for pick up at Transport Malta’s offices in Ħal Lija. 

Withdrawal of a Driving Licence for Health Reasons

Withdrawal of a driving licence issued in Malta is done where the client is deemed not fit to drive by a medical doctor engaged by the driver or by Transport Malta, at which point you must return your driving licence to Transport Malta as required by law. If the health reason is temporary, the licence card is kept at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit (DVLU) until you are declared to be fit to drive, following which you can either collect it from Transport Malta’s offices in Paola or request to have it delivered for pick up at Transport Malta’s offices in Ħal Lija.
