An International Driving Permit is needed for driving within countries that are not Member States with the European Union, or that are not party to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. It is not required to drive within the EU, or within the countries that are party to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, as the Maltese Driving Licence is accepted within the EU.
If you wish to drive a motor vehicle in another country other than in a Member State, you may apply to the Authority for the issuance of an international driving permit in accordance with the provisions of any international convention applicable to Malta.
The fee for the International Driving Permit is 33.25 and is valid for one year from date of issue.
You may apply for an International Driving Permit across the counter by submitting the International Driving Permit DRV06 application. You may also submit your application online on mygov.mt using your e-id account.
