Installation of Bicycle Racks and Repair Stations, and related facilities- 2025

The information included in this page is meant to provide information about this incentive scheme, without prejudice to any provision in the respective scheme as published on the government gazzette, downloadable here.

This financial incentive intends to further facilitate the use of bicycles and pedelecs and of active mobility through the provision of more adequate infrastructure..

The grant provides incentives for the installation of one or more of the following facilities which shall be available for public use free of charge: 

  • Bicycle Racks;
  • Bicycle Repair Stations;
  • Related Ancillary Facilities.

The aid intensity related to this scheme depends on the type of applicant, as expained below:

70% of capital expenditure incurred

GENERAL NOTE: The total grant issued to applicants for any of these incentives shall not exceed the capital expenditure incurred.

Eligibility of Installed facilities

Prior to purchasing and installing the bicycle racks and/or ancillary facilities and/or repair stations, the applicant must read and follow the guidelines that provide the applicable specifications and instructions.

Applying for this Incentive

An application for this grant shall be done in two stages.

Stage 1

Before affecting any procurement and installation, Section A of application form VEH081 shall be submitted, duly filled, and containing all the information, details and documents as required in the said form. The street furniture permit shall be submitted as supporting documentation with this application.

Once the applicant receives a written approval of the grant from the Authority, the procurement and installation of the bicycle racks and/or ancillary equipment and/or repair station may start.

The Authority shall not be held responsible for any expenditure incurred by any applicant unless this is done following a written approval issued by the Authority in accordance with this section and in line with the information included in the application to which this approval is related.

Stage 2

Following the complete installation of the bicycle racks and/or ancillary equipment and/or repair stations, Section B of application form VEH081 shall be submitted, duly filled, and containing all the information, details and documents as required in the said form.

*Applications from business undertakings and from Voluntary Organisations with an economic activity shall be subject to the de minimis State Aid Regulations and applicable thresholds. Depending on the sector of activity of the applicant, the De Minimis rules stipulated in Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2023/2831, Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1408/2013 or Commission Regulation (EU) No. 717/2014 shall apply.

Bank Document Evidence

The bank document to be submitted along with the application must provide sufficient proof that the IBAN included in the form where the grant is to be deposited is effectively owned by the applicant or the spouse of the applicant. Therefore, this document must be issued by the bank where the account is held and must show, as a minimum, the following information:

  • The IBAN or, as a minimum, the bank account number;
  • The name and surname of the account holder.

Documents printed by the applicant are not considered to be adequate evidence that the account is actually held by the applicant.
