Schemes to Convert Vehicles to Autogas/LPG

These schemes are intended to promote the conversion of old Category M1 (passenger cars) and N1 (small goods vehicles) vehicles, and Heavy Duty Vehicles so that they can operate using LPG (Autogas).

The overall aim of the scheme is to reduce the dependency on Petrol or Diesel in favour of LPG which generates less pollution.

This schemes are available for:

  • Individuals; 
  • Registsred Companies or Partnerships;
  • Self Employed; and
  • Cooperatives.

A total of €250,000 are allocated for these schemes.

Grant for the conversion of Category M1 and N1 Vehicles to Autogas.

  1. A grant of €400 to convert Category M1 vehicles (passenger cars) and Category N1 vehicles (goods carrying) originally running on petrol engines so that they can also run on Autogas.
  2. Applicants are entitled to a maximum of 10 grants each;
  3. Applicants for this grant submit form VEH 62 with all required supporting documents at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit In Paola or Ħal Lija.

Grant for the retrofitting of HDDF systems on Heavy-Duty Vehicles.

  1. A grant of €800 to retrofit Heavy-Duty Dual-Fuel systems on Category N2 and N3 vehicles (heavy goods vehicles) and Category M2 and M3 vehicles (minibuses, buses and coaches) so that they can operate using diesel and gas simultaneously and reduce the emission of smoke by at least 25%;
  2. Applicants are entitled to a maximum of 10 grants each;
  3. Applicants for this grant submit form VEH 60 with all required supporting documents at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit In Paola or Ħal Lija;
  4. The State Aid Declaration form VEH 71 is also required. In line with the de minimis Regulation, the total amount of state aid granted to a single undertaking or organisation under this scheme and any other de minimis scheme, shall not exceed in the aggregate €200,000 (or €100,000 in the case of a single undertaking performing road freight transport for hire or reward) over a rolling three fiscal year period.
