Registering a Vehicle - Documents required

Brand new vehicle

Documents required to register a brand new vehicle:

  1. An original insurance certificate
  2. Forms VEH01 and VEH02
  3. Original COC (certificate of conformity issued from the manufacturer)
  4. Invoice showing registration, chassis or engine number. VAT will be calculated on purchase price
  5. Notice of arrival with the registration plate or chassis number of the vehicle.
  6. VAT form
  7. VEH04 stamped by Customs (only if vehicle is imported from outside EU)
  8. Fees – registration tax calculated on CIF (cost, insurance and freight), Є15 administration fee, Є70 for random plates (Є200 for personalised and Є1,500 for customised), vehicle license and VAT (18% on CIF).

Vehicle imported from the UK

Documents required to register a used M1 vehicle imported from the UK:

  1. An original insurance certificate on client’s name
  2. VRT (if vehicle is older than 4 years, or 1 year if mileage exceeds 160,000km) – if vehicle has a valid MOT till at least the end of the month  a VRT certificate is not required
  3. Duly filled and signed forms VEH01 and VEH02
  4. Inspection of vehicle by TM’s Technical Unit
  5. Original UK logbook signed by last owner and by client. For new format of UK logbook where there aren’t fields where seller and buyer can sign, VEH50 or an invoice from last registered owner will be accepted.
  6. A mileage verification certificate: a valid MOT, a Jevic certificate, which can be obtained by sending a scanned copy of the UK logbook to this e-mail address info@jevic.co.uk or CAP certificate, which may be obtained by visiting this website  - https://odometer.cap-hpi.com/malta

    N1 vehicles do not need mileage verification

  7. Original notice of arrival on client’s name and showing a reference of the vehicle (vehicle has to be registered within 30 days from date of arrival)
  8. UK plates
  9. Fees – Registration tax (as per valuation from Technical Unit, Є15 administration fee, Є55 for the inspection, Є70 for random plates (Є200 for personalised and Є1,500 for customised), vehicle license.
  10. Please note that if the vehicle has less than 6,000km or is less than 6 months old, an invoice from seller is needed as VAT must be paid.

Vehicle imported from outside the EU

Documents needed for the registration of an M1 vehicle imported from outside the EU:

  1. An original insurance certificate
  2. VRT (if vehicle is over than 4 years old or 1 year if its mileage exceeds 160,000km)
  3. Duly filled and signed forms VEH01 and VEH02
  4. Inspection from Technical Unit confirming Co2
  5. VEH05 – stamped and signed by police and customs
  6. Original logbook stamped by police (and an official translation if not in English)
  7. Jevic – mileage certificate
  8. Notice of arrival with reference of vehicle
  9. Invoice with reference of vehicle
  10. Fees – registration tax  (as noted in section 12.4 of POL02 and as per technical unit inspection. Please note that minimum tax applies for vehicles imported from outside EU), Є15 admin fee, Є55 inspection, Є70 for random plates (Є200 for personalised and Є1,500 for customised), vehicle license. VAT is applicable if vehicle has less than 6,000km or less than 6 months.
  11. Minimum Tax (the vehicle’s age is the age of a vehicle from year of manufacture) applies to used M1 (including autogas, electric and hybrid electric motor vehicles) and quadricycles imported from Non-EU countries excluding: Thev Channel Islands (Guernsey and Jersey). The Isle of Man, Monaco, Andorra, or San Marino, and which have a vehicle age in excess of five (5) years.
