Change of Engine
If you have changed the engine of your vehicle, you are to register the change with Transport Malta. Please present the change of engine form VEH 08 duly filled in at the Land Transport Directorate.
The upper part of the change of engine Form has to be completed by the Seller of the said engine. If the engine was removed from another vehicle the owner must state the registration number of the vehicle from which the engine was removed.
If the engine was imported, the Form A or the Inspection Form issued by the police (after the 16th June 1994) is to be produced.
Before registering the engine you have to make an inspection of the engine at the Transport Malta – Technical Unit. An amount of € 12.00 Administration Fees must be paid before the inspection.
If there is a discrepancy in the engine details, the matter will be handed over to the Police (SVS Section) for further investigations from their end.
In case the cubic capacity between the old and new engine exceed 2 categories. ie: from Class 4 to Class 2 or Class 5 to Class 3, an approval from the Land Transport Technical Unit is required.
If your vehicle which has been officially scrapped with Transport Malta is taken to an authorized destruction facility, and therefore destructed at this site, it is deemed to have been transferred. In such case, when a customer will be replacing the engine on his vehicle which was purchased from the destruction facility (e.g. Tar-Robba Ltd), s/he has to present the change of engine form VEH08 signed by the owner of the destruction facility, together with a copy of the Destruction Certificate which will be issued by the Destruction Facility.
Change of Colour
If you changed the colour of your vehicle you have to register the change at the Licensing and Testing Directorate. You have to produce a Vrt discrepancy form and the logbook.
A new logbook will be issued against a fee of € 10.
Change of Body Type
Before effecting any change to the body type of your vehicle, you are kindly requested to register such change at the Licensing and Testing Directorate. Also you have to confirm if such change can be made.
A Vrt discrepancy, engineer's report and the logbook are to be produced and a new logbook will be issued against a fee of € 10 and any other fees.
Replacement Registration Certificate (Logbook)
1. If you lose your certificate of registration or it is misplaced, please submit the Declaration Form - VEH 39 duly filled in and a copy of the ID card. The replacement logbook will be issued against a fee of €18.
2. You can send the documents and cheque by post and Transport Malta will mail the replacement logbook to your registered address.
3. You may nominate on the form another person to collect the replacement logbook on your behalf.
