The Government in conjunction with Transport Malta is extending the grant scheme to incentivise vehicle owners to convert their vehicle to autogas. This is another environment friendly measure aimed at reducing further emissions from road traffic.
Subject to the conditions below, the grant amounts to €200 which will be given upon the conversion to autogas of an M1or N1 motor vehicle used for private purposes.
The scheme came in effect on the 1st of January 2015 and closes on the 31st December 2015 or earlier if the maximum of 250 claims has been reached. However, M1or N1 vehicles which have been converted to gas after the 1st January, 2014, shall also be eligible for the grant. The scheme is capped at 250 eligible claims on a first come first serve basis.
The scheme for a grant of €200 for the conversion of a motor vehicle applies to a person residing in Malta who is the registered owner of a motor which –
(a) was registered for the first time, either in Malta or outside Malta, on the 1st January, 2009 or thereafter,
(b) is registered with and licensed by Transport Malta in the name of the applicant on date of the converstion and application for the grant, and
(c) has been coverted to autogas by a competent person.
Every eligible person shall be entitled to only one grant under this scheme.
Where an applicant qualifies for the grant, the grant shall be paid to that applicant.The grant given shall not be assessed as income for tax purposes.
Applications under this scheme, together with all the relevant documents, shall be submitted/sent by the the applicant to, Transport Malta Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hornworks Ditch, Floriana, Hall C, between 7.30 a.m. and 12.00 noon during working days.
