Driving a Passenger Transport Vehicle (more than 9 seats)
The following procedure applies for persons wishing to obtain a Driver’s Permit and Tag in order to drive route buses, coaches, open top buses and minivans:
Be in possession of a driving licence in categories D1, D1E, D, D Auto or D+E;

Have a minimum of 1 year driving experience in driving licence Category B;

Attended a Customer Care Course approved by Transport Malta. Form DP-A13 should be filled in this respect;

If the applicant is already in possession of a Light Passenger Transport (Chauffer Driven) Vehicle Tag, the Customer Care Course will not be required.

Form DP-A12 should also be filled in and processed by TM. The applicant will then receive a letter from Transport Malta, informing him/her about the outcome of this application.

Clients having obtained their driving licence in categories D1, D1E, D, D Auto or D+E after the 10thSeptember, 2008 also need to obtain a Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC).
On completion of the above, the applicant will be required to go personally to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hall B, weekdays between 7.30a.m. and 12.00p.m. and present the following:

Letter from TM in respect of outcome of application form DP-A12

CPC Initial qualification denoting passes in Theory Tests (Multiple Choice and Case Study) and Practical Demonstration test or where applicable CPC periodic training certificate.
On confirmation of all the documents and data, an on-site photo will be taken and the applicant will be issued with a Driver’s Permit and Tag with a validity period of 5 years.
The driving licence shall need to be deposited at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hall B, since this will be updated with the respective harmonized code (104/105) to show that the client is a holder of a Driver’s Permit and Tag in the respective vehicle category. A fee of €6 will be charged.
When a Driver Permit and Tag Holder is due to renew his/her tag, he/she will be required to sign and submit the DP-A14 form . The client will then receive a letter from Transport Malta informing him/her about the outcome of this renewal application.
