Horse Drawn Cabs or Karrozzini, may be driven only by holders of a driver’s tag, which is issued by the Driver and Operator Licensing Unit of Transport Malta to applicants who satisfy the following requirements:
Applicants are required to apply and attend for the Customer Course. The approved service provider for the customer course is SSM Limited. They can be contacted at either SSM Group, Class Court A/1, Danny Cremona Street, Hamrun HMR 1514 or by telephone 21231015 or by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The fee for the Customer care course is Euro46.59. Further information regarding the modules of the course is found overleaf.
In order to satisfy the condition of good repute and conduct, an applicant shall include a Police Conduct Certificate along with the application. For this type of tag, a person shall not be deemed to be of good repute as stated in Subsidiary Legislation 65.11
Applicants who are found to satisfy all the above requirements, will be issued with a Driver's Permit Tag on which the icon for horse drawn cabs is shown which is valid for a maximum period of five years, or earlier depending on driving licence validity.
Renewal of Tag
The following procedure applies for renewing the Horse Drawn Cabs/Karozzini Tag:
The applicant will be required to come personally to the Driver and Passenger Operator Licensing Unit, Hall C, weekdays between 07:30am and 12:00pm and present the following documents:
· An original, recent and clean police conduct certificate;
· Sign and submit the DP-A14 form .
On confirmation of the documentation, client will be issued with a Tag valid for a maximum period of five years, or earlier in line with the Driving Licence validity, against a fee of €12.
The driver is obliged to wear a valid tag whenever on duty, particularly when a client is in the Horse Drawn Cab.
